This Week’s Prize is a Trip for Two to Comic Con 2011, Including Tickets to Syfy’s Exclusive Party

Iconic pieces and once-in-a-lifetime experiences representing several of Syfy’s hit original series are available for bid in an online auction accompanying Syfy’s new reality series, Hollywood Treasure, which continues with all new back-to-back episodes Wednesdays at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. ET/PT. Net auction proceeds will go towards national non-profit KaBOOM!, which is dedicated to saving play.

This week Syfy fans can go to www.syfy.com/hollywoodtreasure and bid to win a trip for two to the world famous Comic Con event in San Diego, including tickets to Syfy’s annual party, the hottest ticket in town. The package is available for bid through Tuesday, November 9.

Hollywood Treasure is a weekly reality series that delves into the intricate world of showbiz and pop culture memorabilia collecting, including science fiction and fantasy props and costumes. The series follows Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History and the world’s largest auctioneer of original movie, television and pop culture collectibles.

In an all-new episode of Hollywood Treasure airing Wednesday, November 10 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, Joe Maddalena travels to England to meet with Harvey Stephens, the child actor who played Damien in one of the most iconic horror movies of all time, The Omen. Harvey shows Joe his original costume and famed prop used during prominent scenes from the film. Joe wants the items for auction but is Harvey willing to let go of these pieces from his childhood? In another all-new episode airing at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT, Joe is back in Los Angeles and sets his sight on finding the famed yellow brick road from The Wizard of Oz. One of the last surviving principle cast members from the show, an original lollipop kid, Jerry Martin, makes a surprise visit.

It is football season (or basketball or hockey whatever) and the guys are coming over to watch next week’s big game. You have everything ready to go but wait, you can’t watch the game on you old Zenith Chroma color! It’s time for an upgrade.

The vast majority of televisions have been built around the same technology: the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). The television image is produced by lighting up different areas of the phosphor coating with different colors at different intensities. But they do have a serious drawback they are bulky consequently, any big-screen CRT television is going to weigh a ton and take up a sizable chunk of a room. That was in the past; today you have a wide range of slim TVs from LCDs to plasma. But which one is the right on for you? Flat screen technology offers basically two types of displays LCD (Liquid crystal display) and Plasma (a gas charged method of lighting pixels).

They look, a lot alike and sound a lot alike… so what is the difference? LCD sizes start in the widest range. Typically 13 to 45 are the most common but some manufacturer’s offer LCD displays in up to 100. Plasma screen sizes, typically, range from 32 to 63. However, like with the LCD, some manufacturers are offering much larger sizes up to 103 if you can afford them. LCD TVs are most versatile, and tend to look better in the typical viewing situations because they do not reflect light like the Plasma screens do. Because LCD TVs are backlit they naturally block outside light in order to create blacks and therefore fare better in natural lighting situations. Plasma pixel, technology produces a much brighter picture with more contrast between the blacks and whites (blacks are blacker and whites are whiter) than LCD technology because the pixels are either all off or all on. However, because of screen reflection, ambient light can nullify all the advantages Plasma has to offer. So consider where you will be viewing your display and the lighting situation that exists there.

The newest technology with LCDs have typical refresh rates of 16ms or less (the lower the number the better). This means that LCD TVs refresh as well as Plasma TVs. Plasma TVs have been known, from the beginning, to have excellent refresh rates and, in the past, significantly outperformed the LCD TVs. However that has changed with newer technology and refresh rate differences for Plasma and LCD TVs are negligible. Some TVs might have a problem with a burn-in effect. What is burn-in you might ask? Simply put, it is a damaged pixel. Newer technology LCD TVs do not have a problem with burn-in. But sometimes still have a ghosting effect because of abnormal pixel charge. Newer technology has reduced the burn-in effect of plasma TVs very significantly by use of pixel orbiter. However, it is recommended that this be one of the issues you discuss with the retailer you purchase your set from.

LCD TVs are quite a bit pricier than Plasma when it comes to big screen (42 and larger). However, if you are looking at the smaller sets (13 to 32) then LCD is your best (and perhaps only) choice. Plasma TVs give you more bang for your buck. But if any of the other considerations above are insurmountable, or if money is not an issue and you want the best possible picture, then LCD is the way to go. Flat screen technology is always changing. What cost $10,000 7-years ago, now cost $400 at your local Wal-Mart today.

It’s becoming more and more important to know how to select a flat panel TV. There are slim, sleek, bright and beautiful TVs that are offering amazing viewing experiences from built-in Internet services to 3D displays. The simple fact is that there will always be newer technology so do your research before you buy, and in the end you will have a TV you will love for more than just the big game.

The popular cast of the hit TV musical show, “Glee,” recently gave their fans, select media and some VIPs an advance Halloween treat by giving an advance screening of their “Rocky Horror Picture Show” tribute episode at the Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles.

Fans, who were encouraged to dress in costumes, packed the midnight screening of “The Rocky Horror Glee Show.”

In the episode, the thrill begins when Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) decides to have the glee club perform “The Rocky Horror Glee Show” for the annual school musical after learning of Emma Pillsbury’s (Jayma Mays) newfound love for the cult classic.

Despite Sue Sylvester’s (Jane Lynch) usual scheming, the members of New Directions inject their distinctive style to such timeless tracks as “The Time Warp” and “Damn It, Janet.”

During our recent “Glee” set visit at the Paramount Pictures Studios, we sat with the cast as they talked about their experience in the Halloween-themed episode that will be shown in the US on Tuesday, October 26.

“Glee” creator-writer Ryan Murphy told his cast, “You can say who you play.”

But the “Eat Pray Love” director added, “The only mystery we’re keeping a secret is which of the guys had to wear those gold lame briefs. The reason we did that musical was because Adam Shankman directed it. That musical really captures the spirit of ‘Glee.’ I remember being 13 or 14 years old and going to see it. There were many other people around who didn’t fit in their school and no one loved them or cared about them. It was just a feeling of community and sort of outsiders. I thought, ‘Oh, that works great for the show.’ So we really do pay tribute to it. It’s is our first album that we put out (in this season). It is called ‘The Rocky Horror Glee Show Album.’ (The album is released in Manila by Sony Music Entertainment Philippines.) It came out mid-October for Halloween.”

Cory Monteith, who is Finn Hudson in the series, disclosed he was playing Brad Majors. Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams) revealed he was “the professor of criminology.” Lea Michele (Rachel Berry) said she was Janet and Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones) told us she was Frank N Further.

Matthew disclosed, “I am the director.”

Ryan added, “Matt does a great number with Jayma where she does ‘Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a Touch Me,’ the Susan Sarandon song which was actually Jayma’s audition piece for the show.”

Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) revealed, “I play Riff Raff. I was very excited. I begged them to let me do Riff Raff and I had to be in the make-up chair two hours every day to get the bald cap on and the wig. I was a little carried away with the character so I have a huge bruise on my elbow but it was so much fun. It is one of the best things we’ve done on the show so far.”

Heather Morris (Brittany Pierce) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang) both play Columbia.

Jenna added, “I also got to play another partygoer so I get to wear lots of wigs. None of us was recognizable. Heather looked just like Columbia.”

Heather quipped, “Yeah, it was weird. I morphed from Brittany to Columbia.”

Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray) said, “I got to play Magenta. I was so excited because I loved the film growing up. My mom also did not understand why I liked ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ so I had to hide watching it because she thinks the movie is inappropriate for me. I walked past Ryan and I was saying, ‘Who’s playing Magenta?’ and then walk away.” She laughed.

“It was so much fun,” she revealed. “I just love dressing up. I think that was a part of me that was instilled as a kid and I never lost it. It was really fun.”

“I play the lips,” Mark Salling (Noah “Puck” Puckerman) said and laughed. “I’d never seen the show before so I watched it when I found out we were going to do it.”

“It’s so great because there’s no point to the movie,” Chris added. “There’s a little bit of a plot but the whole point of the movie is just to have fun. I mean, how great is that just to interact and have a good time. There’s no message or anything. Just have a good time. It did really fit well with us.”

And to the “Glee” fans who were at the advance screening, having a good time and lots of fun was exactly what they did!

source superherohype

ABC is currently developing a live-action television series based on The Incredible Hulk, reports Deadline.

The character of the Hulk and his alter-ego, Bruce Banner, first appeared in 1962′s The Incredible Hulk #1. A scientist, Banner’s accidental exposure to Gamma rays causes him to becoming an uncontrollable, rampaging beast whenever he is enraged.

Outside of comics, The Incredible Hulk is perhaps best known as a CBS series that ran from 1978 to 1982, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. More recently, the character has spawned two films, 2003′s Hulk (starring Eric Bana) and 2008′s The Incredible Hulk (starring Edward Norton). Mark Ruffalo is attached to take over the role for 2012′s The Avengers.

Although there is some planned continuity between the latter two films, it is unknown whether or not that plan will carry over for the ABC series, which is currently seeking writers.

UPDATE: Heat Vision is reporting that Marvel is also looking at developing the characters of Cloak and Dagger for the small screen.

Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen are, respectively, the superhero duo, who first appeared in 1982′s The Spectacular Spider-Man #64. Both runaway teens, Cloak and Dagger become the victims of a criminal heroin dealer whose experimentations awaken latent mutant abilities. Cloak’s powers allow him to engulf criminals in a world of darkness within himself while Dagger has the ability to create and manipulate daggers of light.

The article notes that Cloak and Dagger could be a candidate for ABC Family. While there is, again, not necessarily a continuity planned between film and television, the characters of Cloak and Dagger made a popular appearance in the original arc of Runaways, which is heading into production as a feature adaptation soon.
